Comments sought on school calendars policy - Newsroom - 30-01-2014 Pretoria - The Department of Basic Education is calling on members of the public to submit comments on the Proposed Amended Policy for Determining School Calendars. Over the past few years, various stakeholders and the general public have made recommendations which have made it necessary to amend the policy for determining school calendars for public schools. The purpose of the policy is to regulate how a school calendar will be determined for ordinary public schools in South Africa. A school calendar structures the total number of days allocated for teaching and learning in a year, according to a unique pattern. It lays down the dates of commencement and termination of the school terms and the length of school holidays. The process of determining the school calendar is guided by general principles and a set of specifications. The Proposed Amended Policy for Determining School Calendars for Public Schools in South Africa delves into the key areas of determining and adequately determining an effective calendar that will guide the academic year. Stakeholder organisations and all interested parties are invited to make written comments and submissions on the proposed amended Policy, in writing, and direct the comments to the Acting Director General, Private Bag X896, Pretoria, 001, for attention of Mr. S Mlambo. |
