We do not know how to talk to new people easily
Schools need to make a start on this. my own answer is whole school efforts to use chess as game between all age and sex groups.
our human brains are naturally geared to make instantaneous decisions about everyone we meet and a rapid game of chess is a wonderful starting point for this, especially under supervision.
