Award Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques for translation


Establishment
On the 31st of October 2006, King Abdulaziz Public Library Council approved the establishment of this annual international award for distinguished works of translation and for prominent institutions that contributed significantly to the field of translation from and into Arabic.

Purpose
1 To contribute to the transfer of knowledge from and into Arabic
2 To promote translation into Arabic in various fields of science
3 To enrich the Arabic archive by publishing distinguished works of translation
4 To recognize the achievements of institutions with outstanding contributions to the field of translation from and into Arabic
5 To establish standards of excellence in translation with regard to originality, scientific value, and text quality

Categories
1 Translation Award for institutions
2 Translation Award in humanities and social sciences from, Arabic into other languages
3 Translation Award in humanities and social sciences from, other languages into Arabic
4 Translation Award in natural sciences, from Arabic into other languages
5 Translation Award in natural sciences, from other languages into Arabic

: The Prize
The award consists fo the following:
1. An award certificate detailing the reasons for granting the award.
2. A cash prize of five hundred thousand Saudi Riyals ($133,000).
3. A gold medal
TERMS AND DOCUMENTS (Works of Translation)
NOMINATION TERMS No.
Nominations may be submitted by individuals or institutions. 1
Nominations must adhere to the announced topics. 2
Translation must be either from or into Arabic. 3
Works of translation should be recent; their date of publication must not exceed five years before the date of nomination (not before 1424H - 2003). 4
Works that have previously received an award for translation may not be nominated. 5
No more than one work per translator may be nominated. 6

Under the patronage of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques
King Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz, his royal highness prince Abdul Aziz Bin Abdullah, member of the board of King Abdul Aziz public library honors the winners of the Translation International Prize of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz, on Tuesday's evening 23/4/1429 at the library's hall.


Bin Moammar said, that the winners were selected according to accurate principles and standards set by experts of translation. The scientific committee decided to grant the prize in the field of institutions and corporation efforts to king Fahd complex for printing the holy Quran for its distinct translated works "quantitatatively and qualitatively" and for its nomination by many governmental and non governmental departments and as it is considered one of the most important parties interested in translation.

The committee granted the in the field of physical sciences from other languages to Arabic( in half) between Dr. Abdullah Bin Abraham Al Mohandas( Saudi) Prof. of civil engineering at king Saudi University for his translation of the book" Geotechnical engineering" soil Mechanics, for his author John Seneca, English edition and Dr. Ahmad Fad Bash (Egyptian", Prof. of Physics, Cairo University for his translation of the book" from atom to " for his author Sam Truman, English edition and also decided to freeze the prize in the field of physical science from Arabic to other languages during this session as the quality of translated works did not promote to the standard level of the prize.


Dr. Moammar assured that the prize supports the endeavors of the library to be converted from being a cultural organization to be an integrated cultural environment through presenting a number of long term cultural projects, locally and internationally, which include leading projects such as the club of a child book, K.S.A. encyclopedia, and the unified Arabian index, as well as its prevailing existence internationally in all purposeful activities in order to support the dialogue among civilizations and cultures which was crowned by issuance of the Translation International Prize of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz. the following website
