Higher education committee visits GP, KZN FETs

Pretoria - The Portfolio Committee on Higher Education and Training will this week conduct oversight visits to Wits University and Further Education and Training (FET) institutions in Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal.

Foster Mohale from the Parliamentary Communication Service said the three-day visits will end on Wednesday, September 18.

Mohale said the visits are part of the committee’s on-going countrywide oversight programme, which is aimed at assessing student enrolment and challenges faced by the institutions, allocation of the National Student Financial Aid Scheme of South Africa (NSFAS) bursary/loans to students, transformation plans and admission policies at the identified institutions.

“During these visits, members of the committee will meet with various stakeholders, including the management, Student Representative Councils (SRCs) and unions representing the staff,” he said.

Since the beginning of the year, the committee has conducted oversight visits at several institutions of higher learning, including the North West University, University of Venda, University of Limpopo – Turfloop Campus, all FETs in Limpopo, Mpumalanga and the North West. – SAnews.gov.za
